Project AMX

(UPDATE - SOLD NOVEMBER 1999)
1969 AMX

I am the proud new owner of a 1969 AMX. Here is a bit about the car..............

It was originally purchased from Queen City Rambler in Charlotte, NC on October 4th, 1969 by Theo Elam Cochrane of Lincolnton, NC. The second owner was Ronald Lee Priebe of Charlotte, NC on May 16th, 1978 at a mileage of 81,643. I purchased the car from Mr. Priebe on July 15th, 1997 at a mileage of 107,333. You would not believe the file of documentation I got with this car! I will be scanning the file for posting here, when I have time.

1969 American Motors Corporation model AMX, #10116, VIN #A9C397X227098, Bittersweet Orange color with tan leather interior, 390/4v engine with 3spd automatic/console shift (107k miles, transmission rebuilt 3k miles ago in 1989). Twin Grip differential (ratio 2.87:1).

Features and options include: Power disc/drum brakes, Power steering, Factory A/C (works great), Tilt steering wheel, AM/8-Track radio, Leather reclining bucket seats, Dual mirrors, Clock, Tachometer, Tinted glass, Original rally wheels.

The gas gauge, clock and one horn do not work. Otherwise the car is in remarkable mechanical condition. I feel that because the car has had only two local owners before me, and adult driven, the originality has remained intact.

Not so much as a wire is out of place. The engine runs great, transmission shifts great and drives very tight.

My AMX needs a paint job, carpet replaced and seats recovered. I am amazed at how unmodified it is and just how little mechanical work is needed. The following pages will be my log of activities during my refurbishing of this auto.
